This gene encodes a member of a family of adenosine triphosphate(ATP)-metabolizing molecular chaperones with roles in stabilizing and folding other proteins. The encoded protein is localized to melanosomes and the endoplasmic reticulum. expression of this protein is associated with a variety of pathogenic states, including tumor formation. There is a microRNA gene located within the 5' exon of this gene. There are pseudogenes for this gene on chromosomes 1 and 15.

Store the lyophilized protein at –80 centigrade. Lyophilized protein remains stable until the expiry date when stored at –80 centigrade. Aliquot reconstituted protein to avoid repeated freezing/thawing cycles and store at –80 centigrade for long term storage. Reconstituted protein can be stored at 4 centigrade for three days.
Add 200 µl of deionized water to prepare a working stock solution of approximately 0.5 mg/ml and let the lyophilized pellet dissolve completely. Filter sterilize your culture media/working solutions containing this non-sterile product before using in cell culture.
