Description : | MSR1, as known as macrophage scavenger receptor types I and II isoform type 1, is single-pass type II membrane protein. Scavenger receptors are a group of membrane receptors that recognize and internalize modified low density lipoproteins (LDLs) and participate in the removal of many foreign substances and waste materials in the living body. Scavenger receptors are categorized into three classes, and class A mainly expressed in macrophage includes three isoforms derived by alternative splicing. This protein, has been suggested to play important roles in macrophage growth, cell adhesion, osteoclast differentiation, and as well as intracellular signaling. |

Q&As (5)
Ask a questionMSR1 (Macrophage Scavenger Receptor 1) is involved in the recognition and clearance of modified low-density lipoproteins (LDL) by macrophages, playing a critical role in lipid homeostasis.
MSR1 contributes to the resolution of inflammation by promoting the clearance of apoptotic cells and debris. Its anti-inflammatory effects involve modulating cytokine production and signaling.
MSR1 participates in antigen presentation by macrophages, influencing T-cell activation. This role connects MSR1 to adaptive immune responses.
MSR1 is involved in the clearance of amyloid-beta peptides associated with neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's. Its role in phagocytosis and clearance is crucial in the context of neuroinflammation.
MSR1 modulates the immune response by regulating inflammatory signaling pathways. Its involvement in recognizing modified LDL in atherosclerotic plaques links it to inflammation and atherosclerosis.
