Description : | CA-125 is a tumor marker has been shown to be elevated in the blood of some patients with specific types of cancers, or other benign conditions. CA-125 is best known for its role as a biomarker for ovarian but elevated levels have also been associated with endometrial, fallopian tube, lung, breast, and gastrointestinal cancer. CA-125 also known as mucin 16 or MUC16 is a protein that in humans is encoded by the MUC16 gene. MUC16 is a member of the mucin family glycoproteins. |

Ask a questionMUC16 works with other mucins and immune components to maintain epithelial barrier function and immune responses.
It aids in forming the mucosal barrier, protecting against pathogens and mechanical damage.
Targeting MUC16 in cancer therapy, especially in ovarian cancer, could be effective in inhibiting tumor growth and spread.
Altered MUC16 activity can impact the body's defense against inflammation and infection.
MUC16, a mucin protein, is essential for maintaining the protective mucous layer on epithelial surfaces.
MUC16 is associated with cancer progression, particularly in ovarian cancer, where it may facilitate tumor growth and metastasis.
Genetic variations in MUC16 can lead to differences in mucosal integrity and potentially influence cancer susceptibility.
