According to Reuters report, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on Thursday (Mar. 7, 2013) warned U.S.A. and the local health officials about potential infections from a fatal virus that has affected fourteen people and caused the death of eight. Most of infections showed in the Middle East, and no case found in US. The new virus could lead to severe acute respiratory illness with fever, cough and shortness of breath.

The virus is previously unseen in humans. It is a coronavirus, belongs to some family of viruses of the common cold as well as the deadly outbreak of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS). However, the new virus is not the same as SARS, only like the SARS virus which is similar to those found in bats.

A British analysis on three confirmed infections revealed that the virus can pass from person to person rather than from animal to humans.

In Britain, the infection came from a 60-year-old man who had recently been to Pakistan and Saudi Arabia and developed a respiratory illness on January. Doctors detected his samples and found that he was infected with both the new virus and with H1N1.

The CDC said people who have a severe acute lower respiratory illness within ten days of returning from the Arabian Peninsula and adjacent areas should continue to be evaluated according to current guidelines.

Now scientists are keeping eyes on the new virus and wish to develop novel rapid diagnostic tests before the infection expanding to the wide world.
