the human EIF2C3 ( Q9H9G7-1 ) ( Met 1 - Ala 860 ) was expressed, with a
polyhistidine tag at the N-terminus.
Protein argonaute-3, also
known as EIF2C3, Eukaryotic translation initiation factor 2C 3, eIF-2C 3 AGO3
and EIF2C3, is cytoplasm protein which belongs to the argonaute family and
Ago subfamily. EIF2C3 / AGO3 contains one PAZ domain and one Piwi domain.
MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are a class of recently discovered noncoding RNA genes
that post-transcriptionally regulate gene expression. It is becoming clear
that miRNAs play an important role in the regulation of gene translation
during development. EIF2C3 / AGO3 is required for RNA-mediated gene silencing
(RNAi). EIF2C3 / AGO3 binds to short RNAs such as microRNAs (miRNAs) and
represses the translation of mRNAs which are complementary to them. EIF2C3 /
AGO3 lacks endonuclease activity and does not appear to cleave target mRNAs.
