Description : RANTES (acronym for Regulated upon Activation, Normal T cell Expressed and presumably Secreted), was initially discovered by subtractive hybridization as a transcript expressed in T cells but not B cells. Eosinophil-chemotactic activities released by thrombinstimulated human platelets have also been purified and found to be identical to RANTES. Besides T cells and platelets, RANTES has been reported to be produced by renal tubular epithelium, synovial fibroblasts and selected tumor cells. Human RANTES cDNA encodes a highly basic 91 amino acid residue precursor polypeptide with a 23 amino acid residue hydrophobic signal peptide that is cleaved to generate the 68 amino acid residue mature protein. Murine RANTES has also been cloned. Human and mouse RANTES share approximately 85% sequence homology at the amino acid level and exhibit cross-species activities.
Species : Human
Form : Lyophilized
Bio-activity : Activity of this protein measured by its monocyte chemotactic activity and by its ability to chemoattract human CCR5 transfected mouse BaF/3cells. ED50's for these activitites are typically 0.01-0.03 μg/ml and 1-5 ng/ml respectively.
Applications : Activity Assay
Storage : Product should be stored at -20°C. Aliquot to avoid freeze/thaw cycles
Reconstitution : Recommended reconstitution in sterile phosphate buffered saline which contains at least 0.1% human or bovine serum albumin to prepare a stocksolution of no less than 20 μg/ml and vortex thoroughly.
