Description : | Follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) is a hormone synthesised and secreted by gonadotropes in the anterior pituitary gland. FSH and LH act synergistically in reproductionIn women, in the ovary FSH stimulates the growth of immature Graafian follicles to maturation. As the follicle grows it releases inhibin, which shuts off the FSH production. In men, FSH enhances the production of androgen-binding proteinby the Sertoli cells of the testes and is critical for spermatogenesis. In both males and females, FSH stimulates the maturation of germ cells. In females, FSH initiates follicular growth, specifically affecting granulosa cells. With the concomitant rise in inhibin B FSH levels then decline in the late follicular phase. This seems to be critical in selecting only the most advanced follicle to proceed to ovulation. At the end of the luteal phase, there is a slight rise in FSH that seems to be of importance to start the next ovulatory cycle. |
Source : | Porcine pituitaries. |
Species : | Porcine |
Form : | Sterile Filtered White lyophilized (freeze-dried) powder. The FSH was lyophilized with no additives. |
Bio-activity : | 40 Units/1mg. |
Stability : | Lyophilized porcine FSH although stable at room temperature for 3 weeks, should be stored desiccated below -18°C. Upon reconstitution FSH-porcine should be stored at 4°C between 2-7 days and for future use below -18°C. For long term storage it is recommended to add a carrier protein (0.1% HSA or BSA). Please prevent freeze-thaw cycles. |
Reconstitution : | It is recommended to reconstitute the lyophilized porcine FSH in sterile 18M-cm H2O not less than 100 µg/ml, which can then be further diluted to other aqueous solutions. |

Ask a questionlipid metabolism pathways were significantly enriched in DEGs among 3 follicular development stages in FSH superstimulation.
Structural similarity with other glycoprotein hormones of pituitary and placental origin such as luteinizing hormone (LH), thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), and human choriogonadotropin hormone (hCG).
These glycoforms have been shown to have differential functional effects in in vitro studies.
FSH-FSHR signaling can promotes angiogenesis.
FSH has been identified to stimulate release of IL-1ß, which increases the length of survival time of osteoclasts causing further bone resorption to occur.
Accumulating body of evidence demonstrates that FSHR is expressed in different types of tumors, such as: prostate, ovarian, thyroid, neuroendocrine, pancreatic, pituitary, and soft tissue sarcomas.
Biological functions of FSH are activated through its interaction with its specific receptors (i.e. FSHR1).
Functional specificity of FSH is provided by its β-subunit that ensures FSH interaction specifically with FSH receptor (FSHR).
FSH is a glycoprotein and plays an important role in: growth, development, pubertal maturation, and reproductive physiology.
Gonadotrophs of the anterior pituitary gland synthesize and secrete follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) in response to stimulation by the hypothalamic gonadotropin releasing hormone.
