Description : | CARM1 (coactivator-associated arginine methyltransferase 1) is an enzyme encoded by the CARM1 gene found in human beings, as well as many other mammals. CARM1 is a secondary coactivator through its association with p160 family (SRC-1, GRIP1, AIB) of coactivators. It is responsible for moving cells toward the inner cell mass in developing blastocysts. This gene also plays an important role in androgen receptors and may play a role in prostate cancer progression. |

Q&As (5)
Ask a questionCARM1 is involved in the DNA damage response by influencing the recruitment of repair factors to damaged sites. Its role in chromatin remodeling contributes to efficient DNA repair processes.
CARM1 contributes to epigenetic regulation by modifying histones, promoting chromatin accessibility, and influencing the differentiation of cells by regulating the expression of lineage-specific genes.
CARM1 methylates arginine residues in histones, transcription factors, and other regulatory proteins. This modification regulates chromatin dynamics, transcriptional activation, and mRNA splicing.
CARM1 acts as a coactivator by methylating histone and non-histone proteins, modulating chromatin structure, and influencing gene expression through its involvement in transcriptional regulation.
CARM1 collaborates with histone acetyltransferases and other methyltransferases to modulate chromatin structure and transcription. This interplay is crucial for the fine-tuning of gene expression.
