Description |
Aggrecanases are
glutamyl-specific multidomain metalloproteinases of the ADAMTS (a
disintegrin and metalloproteinase with thrombospondin motifs)
family. They hydrolyze aggrecan, the major proteoglycan of articular
cartilage, causing osteoarthritis and other joint diseases. ADAMTS-1
has also been shown to cleave versican, which is the principal large
proteoglycan expressed in mid-tendon. |
