Recombinant Human Caspase 6, Apoptosis-related Cysteine Peptidase
Cat.No. : | CASP6-601H |
Product Overview : | Recombinant Human CASP6 expressed inE.colispontaneously undergoes autoprocessing to yield the subunits characteristic of the active enzyme. The rate of caspase-6 enzymatic hydrolysis can be measured by the release of AMC from the caspase substrate Ac-DEVD-AMC as emission at 440nm and excitation at 380nm using a spectrofluorometer. |

Description : | This gene encodes a protein which is a member of the cysteine-aspartic acid protease (caspase) family. Sequential activation of caspases plays a central role in the execution-phase of cell apoptosis. Caspases exist as inactive proenzymes which undergo proteolytic processing at conserved aspartic residues to produce two subunits, large and small, that dimerize to form the active enzyme. This protein is processed by caspases 7, 8 and 10, and is thought to function as a downstream enzyme in the caspase activation cascade. Alternative splicing of this gene results in two transcript variants that encode different isoforms. |

Q&As (5)
Ask a questionTargeting CASP6 activity may offer a potential therapeutic strategy for slowing down the progression of Alzheimer's disease.
There is potential for CASP6 to be targeted in other diseases involving aberrant cell death pathways, such as certain types of cancer and autoimmune diseases.
Several research groups are working on developing small molecule inhibitors and other drugs that specifically target CASP6 for therapeutic purposes.
As with any targeted therapy, potential side effects and off-target effects of CASP6 inhibition or modulation need to be carefully evaluated in clinical trials.
CASP6 is also being investigated in the context of other neurodegenerative disorders such as Parkinson's disease and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).
