Description : | Angiotensin II is a potent vasopressor hormone and a primary regulator of aldosterone secretion. It is an important effector controlling blood pressure and volume in the cardiovascular system. It acts through at least two types of receptors. This gene encodes the type 1 receptor which is thought to mediate the major cardiovascular effects of angiotensin II. This gene may play a role in the generation of reperfusion arrhythmias following restoration of blood flow to ischemic or infarcted myocardium. It was previously thought that a related gene, denoted as AGTR1B, existed; however, it is now believed that there is only one type 1 receptor gene in humans. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants have been reported for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2012] |

Ask a questionAGTR1 activation in the kidneys leads to vasoconstriction of renal blood vessels, increased sodium reabsorption, and stimulation of aldosterone release, ultimately impacting renal function.
Overactivation of AGTR1 can lead to increased vasoconstriction, sodium retention, and stimulation of aldosterone release, all of which contribute to hypertension.
AGTR1 is widely expressed throughout the body, with high levels found in the cardiovascular system, kidneys, and adrenal glands.
Yes, genetic variations in the AGTR1 gene have been associated with increased susceptibility to cardiovascular diseases, hypertension, and other conditions influenced by the renin-angiotensin system.
AGTR1 activation can modulate inflammatory responses, contributing to inflammation-associated conditions such as atherosclerosis and chronic kidney disease.
Upon angiotensin II binding, AGTR1 activates intracellular signaling pathways, such as G-protein-mediated pathways and the activation of downstream kinases.
AGTR1 activation can promote angiogenesis, the formation of new blood vessels, by stimulating endothelial cell proliferation and migration.
AGTR1 can activate pathways such as the phosphoinositide 3-kinase (PI3K)/Akt pathway, mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) pathway, and the Janus kinase/signal transducer and activator of transcription (JAK/STAT) pathway.
AGTR1 has been implicated in cancer development and progression due to its role in cellular growth, angiogenesis, and inflammation.
AGTR1 activation can promote the generation of reactive oxygen species, contributing to oxidative stress and cellular damage.
