This gene encodes a member of the epidermal growth factor superfamily. The encoded protein is synthesized as a large precursor molecule that is proteolytically cleaved to generate the 53-amino acid epidermal growth factor peptide. This protein acts a potent mitogenic factor that plays an important role in the growth, proliferation and differentiation of numerous cell types. This protein acts by binding the high affinity cell surface receptor, epidermal growth factor receptor. Defects in this gene are the cause of hypomagnesemia type 4. Dysregulation of this gene has been associated with the growth and progression of certain cancers. Alternate splicing results in multiple transcript variants.
EGF involved in several pathways and played different roles in them. We selected most pathways EGF participated on our site, such as ARMS-mediated activation, Adaptive Immune System, Arf6 signaling events, which may be useful for your reference. Also, other proteins which involved in the same pathway with EGF were listed below. Creative BioMart supplied nearly all the proteins listed, you can search them on our site.
EGF has several biochemical functions, for example, calcium ion binding, epidermal growth factor receptor binding, growth factor activity. Some of the functions are cooperated with other proteins, some of the functions could acted by EGF itself. We selected most functions EGF had, and list some proteins which have the same functions with EGF. You can find most of the proteins on our site.

EGF has direct interactions with proteins and molecules. Those interactions were detected by several methods such as yeast two hybrid, co-IP, pull-down and so on. We selected proteins and molecules interacted with EGF here. Most of them are supplied by our site. Hope this information will be useful for your research of EGF.
