Description : This gene encodes a protein that is a member of the M49 family of metallopeptidases. This cytoplasmic protein binds a single zinc ion with its zinc-binding motif (HELLGH) and has post-proline dipeptidyl aminopeptidase activity, cleaving Xaa-Pro dipeptides from the N-termini of proteins. Increased activity of this protein is associated with endometrial and ovarian cancers. Alternate transcriptional splice variants have been characterized.

Ask a question
What role does DPP3 play in metabolic processes? 11/09/2022

DPP3 is involved in the final stages of protein catabolism, breaking down small peptides into amino acids, which can then be reused in protein synthesis or participate in various metabolic pathways.

How is DPP3 expression regulated in various tissues? 10/14/2022

DPP3 expression varies among tissues, with higher levels in the heart, liver, and kidneys. Its expression is regulated by various factors, including hormonal and metabolic cues.

Are there any known inhibitors targeting DPP3, and what are their therapeutic implications? 06/01/2021

Some inhibitors targeting DPP3 have been identified, though their therapeutic implications are still under exploration. Inhibiting DPP3 might be beneficial in conditions where its overactivity contributes to disease pathology.

What is the significance of DPP3 in the context of drug metabolism? 01/02/2020

DPP3 is known to metabolize certain drugs, affecting their bioavailability and efficacy. Understanding DPP3's role in drug metabolism can help in drug design and dosage determination.

Are there any known diseases or conditions associated with mutations or dysregulation of DPP3? 06/02/2019

Dysregulation of DPP3 has been associated with certain cancers and inflammatory conditions. However, the exact pathological role of DPP3 in these conditions is still under investigation.

What is the primary function of the DPP3 gene and its encoded protein? 03/17/2019

The DPP3 gene encodes dipeptidyl peptidase III (DPP3), an intracellular zinc-dependent enzyme. Its primary function is to cleave dipeptides from the N-termini of polypeptides.

How does DPP3 differ from other dipeptidyl peptidases in terms of substrate specificity? 01/03/2019

Unlike other dipeptidyl peptidases, DPP3 has a broader substrate specificity, cleaving a variety of dipeptidyl-2-arylamide substrates and playing roles in multiple physiological processes.
