Description : This gene encodes a secreted ligand of the TGF-beta (transforming growth factor-beta) superfamily of proteins. Ligands of this family bind various TGF-beta receptors leading to recruitment and activation of SMAD family transcription factors that regulate gene expression. The encoded preproprotein is proteolytically processed to generate a latency-associated peptide (LAP) and a mature peptide, and is found in either a latent form composed of a mature peptide homodimer, a LAP homodimer, and a latent TGF-beta binding protein, or in an active form consisting solely of the mature peptide homodimer. The mature peptide may also form heterodimers with other TGF-beta family members. This protein is involved in embryogenesis and cell differentiation, and may play a role in wound healing. Mutations in this gene are a cause of aortic aneurysms and dissections, as well as familial arrhythmogenic right ventricular dysplasia 1. [provided by RefSeq, Aug 2016].

Ask a question
Is there a treatment for TGFB3? 12/16/2019

Currently, researchers are exploring treatments that target TGFB3. Several drugs and antibodies have shown potential efficacy against TGFB3 and are being used in clinical trials for the treatment of the disease.

How does TGFB3 participate in cell proliferation? 08/27/2019

TGFB3 can regulate cell proliferation by activating multiple signaling pathways, such as the Smad signaling pathway and non-Smad signaling pathway. It can promote the progression of the cell cycle or inhibit cell proliferation, depending on the cell type and context.

What are the applications of TGFB3 protein in clinical diagnosis? 07/25/2019

TGFB3 protein can be used as a biomarker to assist the clinical diagnosis of a variety of diseases, such as congenital developmental abnormalities, inflammatory diseases and fibrotic diseases. Measuring TGFB3 protein levels can provide an indicator of early diagnosis and prognostic assessment of disease.

Are there any genetic diseases associated with TGFB3? 06/23/2019

Mutations in TGFB3 have been found to be associated with inherited connective tissue diseases such as Loeys-Dietz syndrome and Marfan syndrome.

Is TGFB3 potentially used to treat pulmonary fibrosis? 05/25/2019

In pulmonary fibrosis, the expression of TGFB3 is elevated and is involved in the development of pulmonary fibrosis. Due to its important role in the pathological process, inhibition of the TGFB3 signaling pathway may be a potential strategy for the treatment of pulmonary fibrosis.

How is TGFB3 related to the immune system? 04/13/2019

TGFB3 plays an important regulatory role in the immune system. It can influence the immune response through the proliferation, differentiation, and functional regulation of immune cells.
