  • Official Full Name

    ABHD16A abhydrolase domain containing 16A [ Homo sapiens ]

  • Overview

A cluster of genes, BAT1-BAT5, has been localized in the vicinity of the genes for tumor necrosis factor alpha and tumor necrosis factor beta. These genes are all within the human major histocompatibility complex class III region. The protein encoded by this gene is thought to be involved in some aspects of immunity. Alternatively spliced transcript variants have been described.

Ask a question
How to prove the ABHD16A is enriched at the ER membrane? 12/18/2022

Using STED microscopy, we can found that mammalian ABHD12 is enriched at the ER membrane30, then checked for the co-localization of ABHD16A with ABHD12. Indeed, we found in Neuro-2a cells, that ABHD16A co-localizes with ABHD12, further confirming that ABHD16A is enriched at the ER membrane.

What disease caused by the ABHD16A when it loss the function? 03/10/2022

A complicated hereditary spastic paraplegia (HSP) caused by ABHD16A loss of function pathogenic variants and the subsequent altered phosphatidylserine (PS) metabolism.

What lab results suggested that ABHD16A is an integral membrane lipase with a cytosolically oriented active site? 07/16/2021

The protein deglycosylation studies and the detergent-independent sensitivity of ABHD16A to proteolytic degradation, have suggested this point.

Could please briefly introduce the enzyme regulation of the ABHD16A? 10/17/2020

Inhibited by beta-lactone-based lipid inhibitors, such as beta-lactone palmostatin-B

What are the top 5 interacting proteins for the ABHD16A gene? 04/19/2020

They are DTX2, RNF5, AGPAT3, TMEM147, and FAM134C.

What is the biological function of the ABHD16A protein when it exist in the human brain? 03/05/2020

ABHD16A is a 21-exon gene which encodes for the α/β hydrolase domain-containing 16A (ABHD16A) enzyme, which is the main brain phosphatidylserine (PS) hydrolase.

What are two main enzymes responsible for the brain Lipopolysaccharides (LPS) metabolism? 12/16/2019

ABHD16A and ABHD12, are the main enzymes responsible for the brain LPS metabolism, as ABHD16A generates LPS while ABHD12 catabolizes them into fatty acid and phosphoserine.

What are the effects of ABHD16A protein on humans based on those urrent research results? 09/30/2019

ABHD16A PS lipase deficiency results in intellectual disability, progressive spasticity, abnormal corpus callosum, and white matter anomalies, most likely through the dysregulation of lipid species including lyso-PS.

What is the difference between ABHD12 and ABHD16A in mouse brain? 07/12/2018

We found relative to the tubulin protein loading control, that ABHD16A was maximally enriched in the cerebellum, and the olfactory bulb, while ABHD12 is ubiquitously expressed at near equal levels in all the aforementioned brain regions.

How does the ABHD16A express in the murine brain? 05/23/2018

ABHD16A has a heterogeneous expression in the murine brain and is enriched in the cerebellum, particularly in the granular layer and the olfactory bulb.
