TYRP1

  • Official Full Name

    tyrosinase-related protein 1

  • Overview

This gene encodes a melanosomal enzyme that belongs to the tyrosinase family and plays an important role in the melanin biosynthetic pathway. Defects in this gene are the cause of rufous oculocutaneous albinism and oculocutaneous albinism type III.

TYRP1 has several biochemical functions, for example, copper ion binding, oxidoreductase activity, acting on paired donors, with incorporation or reduction of molecular oxygen, another compound as one donor, and incorporation of one atom of oxygen, protein binding. Some of the functions are cooperated with other proteins, some of the functions could acted by TYRP1 itself. We selected most functions TYRP1 had, and list some proteins which have the same functions with TYRP1. You can find most of the proteins on our site.
