MIT: 35 Innovators Under 35 in 2015 (Part Two)

In the last post, we have made an introduction about 6 of the innovators. And this post will introduce the rest 8 and the achievement of them.

Zhen Gu (34 years old)
Zhen Gu recently developed a fingernail-sized patches, covered with more than 100 tiny needles. When you put the patch on the skin, you will feel instantly acupuncture. These needles are filled with tiny capsules, which contains insulin and enzymes. When the blood glucose concentration is too high, the capsule will be opened to release insulin. They are divided into different rates, therefore, insulin is slowly released within hours, rather than all at once.

Cigall Kadoch (30 years old)
She found in cells a genome regulator called BAF protein complex is related to synovial sarcoma. And later, coupled with her colleague, she found that BAF mutation is related to at least 20% of human cancers, opening the door to drug research.

Jini Kim (34 years old)
She was asked to help modify the government website which was used to help people buy health insurance and at that time, the website was filled with all kinds of problems. Six months later, the site has recruited 8 million insurance plans.

Michelle O’Malley (33 years old)
Chemical engineer Michelle O’Malley is trying to figure out how to use anaerobic microorganisms in research to produce better biofuels or drugs.

Rahul Panicker (34 years old)
Rahul Panicker and classmates designed a prototype incubator, which costs only 1% of the traditional costs of similar products, and it does not require professionals to operate. The incubator using phase change materials, can make the baby to keep up in an ideal 37 ° C environment for 6 hours and the situation does not require electricity. Currently, their design has been applied in 15 countries, helping nearly 200,000 infants.
