Significance of Measurement: Catalase (CAT) is a major antioxidant enzyme that decomposes hydrogen peroxide into water and oxygen, protecting cells from oxidative damage. CAT activity is commonly used to assess oxidative stress status in biological samples.
Principle of Measurement: CAT catalyzes the decomposition of H₂O₂, leading to a decrease in absorbance at 240 nm. The rate of absorbance decline is directly proportional to catalase activity.
