X-Gluc (5-bromo-4-chloro-3-indolyl-β-D-glucuronide; MW 521.8, CAS 18656-96-7) is a substrate for β-glucuronidase (GUS) and is widely used for detection of GUS reporter gene expression in transgenic plants and Escherichia coli.
Under appropriate reaction conditions, GUS hydrolyzes X-Gluc to form an insoluble blue indigo precipitate. Regions exhibiting GUS activity appear blue or blue-speckled and can be observed by eye or microscopy. This ready-to-use kit is designed for convenient preparation of staining working solution and is primarily used for qualitative analysis of GUS gene expression in plant research.
