Hematoxylin–eosin (H&E) staining is one of the most widely used staining techniques in histological sectioning. Hematoxylin is a basic dye that stains nuclear chromatin and cytoplasmic ribosomes blue to purple, while eosin is an acidic dye that stains cytoplasm and extracellular matrix components red. Staining outcomes vary depending on tissue or cell type, developmental stage, and pathological condition. For example, immature cells often exhibit weak eosinophilia, whereas aged or degenerating cells show intensified eosin staining. Collagen fibers also display increased eosin affinity during aging or hyaline degeneration. All reagents are supplied as ready-to-use working solutions.
