Lactate is a key metabolic intermediate closely associated with carbohydrate, lipid, protein, and energy metabolism. Lactate levels are important indicators of glycolytic and aerobic metabolic status.
Lactate is converted to pyruvate by lactate dehydrogenase, reducing NAD⁺ to NADH. Electrons are transferred via PMS to reduce MTT to a purple formazan product with absorbance at 570 nm.
