Significance: α-Glucosidase hydrolyzes α-glycosidic bonds, releasing glucose. It is involved in cell wall modification, cell recognition, and signal molecule generation.
Principle: The enzyme hydrolyzes p-nitrophenyl-α-D-glucopyranoside to p-nitrophenol, which absorbs maximally at 400 nm. The increase in absorbance rate is proportional to enzyme activity.
