Product Overview :
Significance of Measurement: Uric acid is the major metabolic product in birds and reptiles, while it is a minor component in human urine. UA also serves as an important antioxidant capable of scavenging superoxide and hydroxyl radicals. Abnormal UA levels are associated with gout, renal dysfunction, atherosclerosis, and hematological disorders.
Principle of Measurement: Uricase catalyzes UA to produce allantoin, CO2, and H2O2. H2O2 oxidizes Fe2+ to Fe3+, which further reacts with phenol and 4-aminoantipyrine to form a red quinone compound with a characteristic absorption at 505 nm.
