This method differs from Masson’s trichrome and is suitable for frozen sections of fresh tissue. It is commonly used to identify mitochondrial myopathies.
Mitochondria and abnormal muscle fibers stain red, collagen and normal muscle fibers stain green, and nuclei appear purple.
