Trypan blue is a vital dye widely used to distinguish live and dead cells and to assess damaged or necrotic plant tissues. It selectively stains non-viable cells and is also used for detecting fungal or pest-induced damage in plant tissues. This staining method allows direct staining of fresh plant tissues without fixation and does not contain chloral hydrate. Damaged areas appear blue.
