This assay employs the anthrone colorimetric method, which is rapid, sensitive, and suitable for micro-sample analysis. However, soluble sugars may interfere with the measurement. This kit is recommended for samples containing trehalose but no other soluble sugars.
Trehalose is widely present in bacteria, algae, yeast, plants, insects, and other invertebrates. Due to its unique biological properties, trehalose protects cellular proteins, lipids, carbohydrates, and nucleic acids under harsh conditions such as drought, heat, dehydration, freezing, high osmotic pressure, and toxic environments.
