Significance: Trypsin (EC 3.4.4.4) selectively hydrolyzes peptide chains at lysine or arginine residues and is essential for digestion. It is also used in treating local edema, hematoma, and abscesses in surgical or trauma cases.
Principle: Trypsin catalyzes BAPNA substrate to release p-nitroaniline (pNA), which absorbs at 405 nm. Absorbance correlates with enzyme activity.
