Significance: Vitamin E is a lipid-soluble vitamin whose hydrolysis product, tocopherol, is one of the most important antioxidants in biological systems. It protects polyunsaturated fatty acids from oxidative damage, maintains membrane integrity, delays aging processes, and prevents hemolytic anemia. Vitamin E is widely applied in pharmaceutical, cosmetic, nutraceutical, and food industries.
Principle: Vitamin E reduces Fe³⁺ to Fe²⁺, which forms a colored complex with 1,10-phenanthroline. The complex exhibits a characteristic absorbance peak at 530 nm, enabling quantitative determination.
