VIP

  • Official Full Name

    vasoactive intestinal peptide

  • Overview

Vasoactive intestinal peptide also known as the vasoactive intestinal polypeptide or VIP is a peptide hormone containing 29 amino acid residues that is produced in many tissues of vertebrates including the gut, pancreas and suprachiasmatic nuclei of the hypothalamus in the brain. VIP stimulates contractility in the heart, causes vasodilation, increases glycogenolysis, lowers arterial blood pressure and relaxes the smooth muscle of trachea, stomach and gall bladder. In humans, the vasoactive intestinal peptide is encoded by the VIP gene.

VIP has several biochemical functions, for example, hormone activity, neuropeptide hormone activity, protein binding. Some of the functions are cooperated with other proteins, some of the functions could acted by VIP itself. We selected most functions VIP had, and list some proteins which have the same functions with VIP. You can find most of the proteins on our site.

VIP has direct interactions with proteins and molecules. Those interactions were detected by several methods such as yeast two hybrid, co-IP, pull-down and so on. We selected proteins and molecules interacted with VIP here. Most of them are supplied by our site. Hope this information will be useful for your research of VIP.
