What is the function of ABCA3?

ABCA3 catalyzes the ATP-dependent transport of phospholipids such as phosphatidylglycerol and phosphatidylcholine from the cytoplasm to the lumen of the lamellar bodies, and then participates in lamellar bodies biogenesis and homeostasis of lung surfactant. Preferential transport of phosphatidylcholine containing short acyl chains.
