Description : This gene encodes the fatty acid binding protein found in liver. Fatty acid binding proteins are a family of small, highly conserved, cytoplasmic proteins that bind long-chain fatty acids and other hydrophobic ligands. This protein and FABP6 (the ileal fatty acid binding protein) are also able to bind bile acids. It is thought that FABPs roles include fatty acid uptake, transport, and metabolism.

Ask a question
How is FABP1 linked to metabolic disorders? 11/20/2019

Elevated levels of FABP1 are associated with metabolic disorders like obesity and insulin resistance, making it a potential indicator for these conditions.

How is FABP1 involved in fatty acid metabolism? 07/29/2019

FABP1 binds to fatty acids, facilitating their transport and metabolism within liver cells.

Are there other organs where FABP1 is expressed? 03/15/2017

While predominantly found in the liver, FABP1 is also expressed in the small intestine and kidney.

Can FABP1 be used for early detection of liver damage? 08/17/2016

Yes, elevated FABP1 levels in blood or urine may indicate early stages of liver damage, enabling early intervention.

Are there genetic variations influencing FABP1 expression? 08/15/2016

Genetic variations may contribute to differences in FABP1 expression, impacting an individual's susceptibility to certain diseases.
