Description : | The protein encoded by this gene is a leucine-rich repeat-containing receptor (LGR) and member of the G protein-coupled, 7-transmembrane receptor (GPCR) superfamily. The encoded protein is a receptor for R-spondins and is involved in the canonical Wnt signaling pathway. This protein plays a role in the formation and maintenance of adult intestinal stem cells during postembryonic development. Several transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. |

Q&As (7)
Ask a questionLGR5, a G protein-coupled receptor, is crucial for the maintenance and proliferation of adult stem cells.
Genetic mutations in LGR5 can disrupt normal stem cell function and tissue maintenance.
It plays a key role in promoting tissue regeneration by signaling stem cells to divide and differentiate.
LGR5 acts as a co-receptor in the Wnt signaling pathway, essential for regulating stem cell growth.
Altered LGR5 activity is associated with the growth of certain cancers, particularly colorectal cancer.
LGR5 works alongside Wnt ligands and receptors, enhancing Wnt-mediated signaling in stem cells.
Targeting LGR5 offers potential for both regenerating tissues in degenerative diseases and targeting cancer stem cells.
