SLK

Official Full Name
STE20-like kinase

Overview
SLK and induces apoptosis in cultured fibroblasts. Over-expression of SLK in various cell lines induces rapid disassembly of actin stress fibers and cell death. Relatively high levels of SLK protein and activity have been observed in all cell types analyzed, suggesting a functional role for SLK in physiological processes other than apoptosis. Activity of SLK is also increased during progression through the G2 phase of the mammalian cell cycle and may function as a regulator of Plk during the somatic cell cycle. The activity of SLK is regulated by phosphorylation and its expression is down-regulated upon mitogen depletion of myoblast and fibroblast cultures. -
