Description : | Activin B is a non-glycosylated cytokine that belongs to the TGF? superfamily. It is involved in a wide variety of biological processes including hematopoiesis, immune response, neural cell differentiation, wound repair and morphogenesis. The Activins form homodimers (e.g. AA; BB) and heterdimers (e.g. AB) and can activate the Smad pathway by signaling through heterodimeric typeI/typeII serine/threonine kinase transmembrane receptors. Activins are also important for production and regulation of several hormones such as FSH, Prolactin, ACTH and oxytocin. Activin B is synthesized by a wide spectrum of cells including bone marrow cells, skin cells, vascular smooth muscle cells and cells of the reproductive system. |
Source : | Nicotiana plant |
Species : | Human |
Tag : | His |
Form : | Lyophilized from Tris HCl at pH 7.4 |
Bio-activity : | Bioactivity is assayed by measuring the ability of recombinant human Activin B to inhibit proliferation of mouse plasma-cytoma cell line (MPC-11). The ED50 value for this effect is typically below 5 ng/ml. |
Molecular Mass : | Single chain of 14 kDa. Recombinant human Activin B contains a protein chain of 113 amino acids and a 10 aa Histidine-based tag for a total length of 123 aa. |
Endotoxin : | Endotoxin level is less than 0.05 EU/ug as measured by LAL method. |
Purity : | Greater than 95% by SDS page analysis. |
Storage : | The lyophilized protein, though stable at 2-8°C in the short term, is best stored at -20°C. Reconstituted protein should be used immediately or stored in working aliquots at -20°C. Avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles. |
Reconstitution : | Always centrifuge the vial before opening. It is recommended to reconstitute the lyophilized protein in sterile water to a concentration of no less than 50 μg/ml. Due to the protein nature, dimmers and multimers may be observed. For long term storage it is recommended to add a carrier protein (0.1% HSA or BSA). |

Yes, activin B is produced endogenously in the body and is present in various tissues and fluids, including follicular fluid.
The serum activin B concentration is lower in tubal ectopic pregnancy compared to normal pregnancy.
Serum activin B concentration cannot reliably distinguish tubal ectopic pregnancy from intrauterine miscarriage (IUM).
Serum activin B concentration can discriminate tubal ectopic pregnancy from normal pregnancy with moderate accuracy.
The activin B-loaded hydrogels are being considered as a therapeutic strategy for Parkinson's disease.
Activin B is a member of the activin family, which is a group of growth and differentiation factors involved in various biological processes.
The purified activin B showed lower activity compared to other activins in various assay systems, such as follicle-stimulating hormone secretion and gonadotropin receptor expression.
No, it indicate that activin inhibition is not an efficient tool for antifibrotic therapy in IPF.
In porcine follicular fluid, the activin B-follistatin complex was found to be present in equimolar amounts, suggesting a tight interaction between the two proteins.
The findings suggest that the activin B-loaded hydrogels have the potential to be an effective therapeutic strategy for Parkinson's disease, based on the observed cellular protection and behavioral improvement.
