Description : | MLH1 is an 87kDa protein involved in mismatched nucleotides during DNA replication or repair process. Mutations in the human MLH1 (hMLH1) and hMLH2 genes contribute to the development of sporadic colorectal carcinoma and some other both hereditary and sporadic forms of human cancer. MLH1 is identified as a locus frequently mutated in hereditary nonpolyposis colon cancer (HNPCC). MLH1 is a human homolog of the E. coli DNA mismatch repair gene mutL, consistent with the characteristic modifications in microsatellite sequences (RER+ phenotype) found in HNPCC. |
