Description : The protein encoded by this gene acts as a homotetramer to catalyze diacetyl reductase and L-xylulose reductase reactions. The encoded protein may play a role in the uronate cycle of glucose metabolism and in the cellular osmoregulation in the proximal renal tubules. Defects in this gene are a cause of pentosuria. Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene.[provided by RefSeq, Aug 2010]

Ask a question
What are the effects of inhibiting DXCR expression? 07/14/2022

Inhibition of DCXR protein expression is associated with male infertility.

Where is the DCXR positioned? 01/24/2022

DCXR is a sperm surface protein localized to the sperm acrosome site.

What is the effect of ureaplasma urealyticum infection on DCXR expression? 11/23/2021

Ureaplasma urealyticum infection can cause epididymal dysfunction leading to decreased expression of the sperm protein DCXR.

What role does the DXCR play? 03/11/2021

DXCR has L-xylulose reductase and bicarbonyl reductase activities that kill bacteria in epididymal fluid.

What is the effect of DCXR expression on sperm viability? 02/09/2021

DCXR can remove certain toxic substances and protect spermatozoa to a certain extent and promote sperm maturation and reduce sperm apoptosis.
