Description : | The protein encoded by this gene is a type II transmembrane AMPA receptor regulatory protein (TARP). TARPs regulate both trafficking and channel gating of the AMPA receptors. This gene is part of a functionally diverse eight-member protein subfamily of the PMP-22/EMP/MP20 family and is located in a cluster with two family members, a type I TARP and a calcium channel gamma subunit. |

Q&As (7)
Ask a questionDysfunctions or mutations in CACNG7 have been suggested in certain neurological disorders, though more detailed research is essential for specific associations.
Genetic variations in the CACNG7 gene can impact its regulatory influence on calcium channels, potentially affecting neural communication and related processes.
CACNG7 acts as an auxiliary subunit, influencing the modulation of activity, trafficking, and surface expression of voltage-gated calcium channels.
CACNG7 mainly interacts with the alpha-1 subunit of calcium channels, and may also have associations with other proteins in the channel complex.
Through its interaction, CACNG7 can influence the channel's gating dynamics, cellular localization, and calcium ion permeation characteristics.
CACNG7 is primarily expressed in neural tissues, with significant levels in particular regions of the brain.
Techniques like mass spectrometry might uncover potential post-translational modifications on CACNG7.
