Description : This gene encodes a member of the ALEX family of proteins and may play a role in tumor suppression. The encoded protein contains a potential N-terminal transmembrane domain and a single Armadillo (arm) repeat. Other proteins containing the arm repeat are involved in development, maintenance of tissue integrity, and tumorigenesis. This gene is closely localized with other family members, including ALEX1 and ALEX3, on the X chromosome. Two alternative transcripts that encode the same protein but differ in the 5 UTR have been described. Additional alternative transcripts may exist but their full length natures have not been determined. A pseudogene for this locus is located on chromosome 7.

Can changes in ARMCX2 expression levels affect neuronal development or function? 03/26/2023

The specific impact of changes in ARMCX2 expression levels on neuronal development or function is not yet clearly understood. Further research is necessary to explore the potential roles of ARMCX2 in these processes.

Are there any animal models available for studying the function of ARMCX2? 03/26/2021

There are currently no specific animal models available for studying the function of ARMCX2. Generating animal models, such as knockout mice, could be useful for investigating its biological roles in vivo.

Where is the ARMCX2 protein predominantly expressed? 06/02/2017

The ARMCX2 protein is mainly expressed in the brain, particularly in regions such as the cerebral cortex, hippocampus, and cerebellum. It has also been detected in other tissues to a lesser extent, including the heart, kidney, and testis.

Does the ARMCX2 protein have any known interacting partners? 06/04/2016

Currently, there is limited information available regarding known interacting partners of the ARMCX2 protein. Identifying and characterizing its protein-protein interactions is an area of ongoing research.

Is the expression of the ARMCX2 gene tissue-specific? 04/16/2016

Yes, the expression of the ARMCX2 gene is tissue-specific, with the highest expression levels observed in the brain. However, low levels of ARMCX2 expression have been reported in other tissues as well.
