Description : | The protein encoded by this gene belongs to a family of P-type cation-transporting ATPases. The gastric H+, K+-ATPase is a heterodimer consisting of a high molecular weight catalytic alpha subunit and a smaller but heavily glycosylated beta subunit. This enzyme is a proton pump that catalyzes the hydrolysis of ATP coupled with the exchange of H(+) and K(+) ions across the plasma membrane. It is also responsible for gastric acid secretion. This gene encodes a catalytic alpha subunit of the gastric H+, K+-ATPase. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008] |

Ask a questionYes, polymorphic variations in the Atp4a gene may be associated with the susceptibility and pathogenesis of gastric acid abnormalities, such as hyperacidity or hypoacidity.
Atp4a interacts with other proteins in the Parietal cells of the gastric mucosa, such as parietal cell-associated proteins, to jointly regulate gastric acid production and secretion.
Mutations in Atp4a may lead to abnormal changes in its intracellular localization and function, and then affect the normal secretion of gastric acid.
Atp4a may be regulated by estrogen and regulate gastric acid secretion by affecting Atp4a expression and activity.
Regulates gastric acid secretion through ATP binding and ion pump transport, and the specific mechanism involves the regulation of multiple signaling pathways and hormones.
Atp4a is a plasma wall protein containing several membrane channels and ATP-binding sites that regulate gastric acid secretion.
