Description:  Methylation of histone H3 at lysine 9 by ESET, G9a among other methyl transferases is involved in euchromatin gene silencing as well as heterochromatin formation. H3 (mono-methyl K9) is enriched in certain euchromatic domains, which have been postulated to be transcriptionally silent. H3 (di-methyl K9) and H3 (tri-methyl K9) mediate heterochromatin formation by forming a binding site for HP1 and also participate in silencing gene expression at euchromatic sites.Histone H3 (pan-methyl K9) Quantification Kit (Fluorometric) allows the user to specifically measure global mono-, di-, and tri-methylation of histone H3K9 fluorometrically using a variety of mammalian cells including fresh and frozen tissues, cultured adherent and suspension cells.
Background:  Core component of nucleosome. Nucleosomes wrap and compact DNA into chromatin, limiting DNA accessibility to the cellular machineries which require DNA as a template. Histones thereby play a central role in transcription regulation, DNA repair, DNA replication and chromosomal stability. DNA accessibility is regulated via a complex set of post-translational modifications of histones, also called histone code, and nucleosome remodeling.
