|Official Full Name||defensin, alpha 5, Paneth cell-specific|
|Background||Defensins are a family of microbicidal and cytotoxic peptides thought to be involved in host defense. They are abundant in the granules of neutrophils and also found in the epithelia of mucosal surfaces such as those of the intestine, respiratory tract, urinary tract, and vagina. Members of the defensin family are highly similar in protein sequence and distinguished by a conserved cysteine motif. Several of the alpha defensin genes appear to be clustered on chromosome 8. The protein encoded by this gene, defensin, alpha 5, is highly expressed in the secretory granules of Paneth cells of the ileum.|

DEFA5 has several biochemical functions, for example, . Some of the functions are cooperated with other proteins, some of the functions could acted by DEFA5 itself. We selected most functions DEFA5 had, and list some proteins which have the same functions with DEFA5. You can find most of the proteins on our site.
DEFA5 has direct interactions with proteins and molecules. Those interactions were detected by several methods such as yeast two hybrid, co-IP, pull-down and so on. We selected proteins and molecules interacted with DEFA5 here. Most of them are supplied by our site. Hope this information will be useful for your research of DEFA5.
