  • Official Full Name
  • kinesin family member 5A
  • Background
  • This gene encodes a member of the kinesin family of proteins. Members of this family are part of a multisubunit complex that functions as a microtubule motor in intracellular organelle transport. Mutations in this gene cause autosomal dominant spastic paraplegia 10.

Protein Function

KIF5A has several biochemical functions, for example, ATP binding, ATP-dependent microtubule motor activity, plus-end-directed, microtubule binding. Some of the functions are cooperated with other proteins, some of the functions could acted by KIF5A itself. We selected most functions KIF5A had, and list some proteins which have the same functions with KIF5A. You can find most of the proteins on our site.
