Ask a questionThe protein is mainly expressed in renal tubules, especially at the tips of collecting duct cells.
AVR2 protein promotes the production of cAMP in renal tubular epithelial cells by activating adenylyl cyclase-adenylyase system, thereby increasing the expression and transport of aquaporin-2 and increasing urine concentration.
AVR2 protein is associated with signal transduction pathways related to adenylyl cyclase-adenylyl enzyme system and increases intracellular cAMP levels by activating adenylyl cyclase.
Mutations in the AVR2 protein are associated with nephrogenic diabetes insipidus, a disorder in which renal tubules are insensitive to arginine vasopressin, resulting in a failure to concentrate urine.
The AVR2 protein is a seven-fold transmembrane receptor protein with an N-terminal external domain and a C-terminal internal domain. The N-terminal external domain contains the site for binding to arginine vasopressin.
The AVR2 protein binds to the antidiuretic hormone arginine vasopressin and, through its binding to arginine vasopressin, triggers the activation of intracellular signal transduction pathways.
