This gene encodes a mitochondrial membrane protein belonging to the GTP-binding superfamily and to the immuno-associated nucleotide (IAN) subfamily of nucleotide-binding proteins. The expression of this gene is induced in BCR/ABL-expressing cells. The encoded protein lacks an N-terminal mitochondrial signal sequence. Experimental studies showed that mitochondrial localization relies on the C-terminal transmembrane domain. In humans, the IAN subfamily genes are located in a cluster at 7q36.1.

GIMAP3 has several biochemical functions, for example, GTP binding, nucleotide binding. Some of the functions are cooperated with other proteins, some of the functions could acted by GIMAP3 itself. We selected most functions GIMAP3 had, and list some proteins which have the same functions with GIMAP3. You can find most of the proteins on our site.
