ARL6IP4
-
Official Full Name
ADP-ribosylation-like factor 6 interacting protein 4
-
Overview
The function of this protein is unknown. However due to sequence homology of the protein with SR splicing factors it is widely believed that the protein is nuclear and may have a role in splicing regulation. The protein is also believed to be a mediator in the RAC1 signalling pathway. -

Q&As (6)
Ask a questionThe interacting partners of ARL6IP4 are not extensively studied. However, it has been reported to associate with the BBSome proteins (BBS1, BBS4, BBS5, and BBS8), which are involved in ciliary trafficking and associated ciliopathies.
The specific role of ARL6IP4 in human diseases is still uncertain due to limited research. However, since it is related to ciliary trafficking, dysregulation of ARL6IP4 could potentially contribute to ciliopathies or other diseases associated with defective primary cilia function.
Current research suggests that ARL6IP4 is ubiquitously expressed in various tissues. However, more studies are needed to better understand its expression patterns and potential tissue-specific functions.
Limited information is available regarding post-translational modifications of ARL6IP4. However, it has been reported that ARL6IP4 can be modified by phosphorylation, potentially affecting its function in intracellular trafficking.
While the exact role of ARL6IP4 in ciliopathies is not fully understood, studies suggest its potential involvement. Mutations in ARL6IP4 have been found in individuals with Joubert syndrome-related disorders, which are ciliopathies characterized by brain abnormalities and neurological impairments.
At present, there are no known specific animal models available for studying ARL6IP4. Further research is needed to investigate its function and develop appropriate animal models for functional studies.
