Official Full Name
intercellular adhesion molecule 1

Overview
This gene encodes a cell surface glycoprotein which is typically expressed on endothelial cells and cells of the immune system. It binds to integrins of type CD11a / CD18, or CD11b / CD18 and is also exploited by Rhinovirus as a receptor. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008] ICAM-1 (55 kDa) is a member of the immunoglobulin supergene family thatfunctions as a ligand for the Lymphocyte Function-Associated Antigen-1. It is asingle-chain glycoprotein that can be expressed on non-hematopoietic cells ofmany lineages. The role of ICAM-1 as a disease marker has been demonstrated fora number of different indications and pathological situations. ICAM-1 upregulation in allergic airway inflammation is responsible for therecruitment of activated leukocytes and the pathogenesis of allergic rhinitis. In lymphoproliferative disorders, ICAM-1 is related to the degree ofmalignancy. -

Customer Reviews (3)
Write a reviewManufacturers may provide documentation of the protein's validation, which includes information about its purity, concentration, stability, and potential contaminants.
This can be particularly important in clinical trials to ensure accurate and reliable results.
If the need arises for larger quantities of ICAM1 protein during the later stages of clinical trials, the manufacturer can facilitate scale-up production processes to meet those requirements.
Q&As (5)
Ask a questionYes, targeting ICAM1 is being explored as a potential therapeutic strategy for inflammatory diseases, with research focusing on developing ICAM1 inhibitors.
ICAM1 is upregulated during inflammation, promoting the adhesion of immune cells to the endothelium and facilitating their migration into inflamed tissues.
ICAM1 expression can be altered in cancer cells and is implicated in promoting cancer progression by facilitating tumor cell adhesion, invasion, and metastasis.
ICAM1 levels can be measured in blood or tissue samples, and elevated levels may serve as diagnostic markers for certain inflammatory diseases.
Elevated levels of ICAM1 in some diseases may serve as prognostic markers, indicating disease severity and potential outcomes.
