New Findings about DOK3 Molecule

Recently, researchers have unveiled the prominent role of two signaling molecules—DOK3 and SHP1 in the development and production of plasma cells. These discoveries, scientist staff in this field said, would advance the understanding of plasma cells and the antibody response, and to some extend, this will help the optimization of vaccine development and improve the treatment for some disease like lupus and multiple myeloma.

This research was said to be the first time when the molecule DOK3 was found to be important in the formation of plasma cells. Moreover, it can promote the production of plasma cells by reducing the effects of calcium signaling on membrane proteins which are essential in the formation of plasma cells. Thus, if the body lacks DOK3 molecules, the plasma cell formation would be defective.

Another study also led by these scientists had found the crucial role of SHP1 signaling to the long term survival of autoimmune diseases. It was said that the absence of SHP1 would lead to a reduction of the body’s immune response and eventually is prone to infections and disease.

This study provides a new platform for the development of novel therapeutic strategies for patients with autoimmune diseases and cancer.
