The 2013 BIA Lifetime Achievement Award Goes to Andy Richards
On Feb. 1st, 2013 during the annual Gala Dinner, the BioIndustry Association (BIA) announced its lifetime achievement award winner—Andy Richards.
When presented Andy with the award, the BIA chairman, Tim Edwards gave his comments and praise on the winner, said he is a true leader in life-science field and a prompter for many people.
Lately Andy expressed his gratitude to the organization and all related people. He stated his confidence in UK life-science ecosystem.
Andy Richards graduated from Cambridge with a PhD in enzyme chemistry. He initially worked for ICI (the current AstraZeneca) and PA Technology. In 1992, he founded Chiroscience. He also invested for many healthcare and lifescience companies, for example Arakis, Cambridge Biotechnology Ltd, Geneservice, Sirus, Daniolabs, Biowisdom, Pharmakodex and Clinical Force.
As an entrepreneur, company founder and Angel Investor, Andy Richards is specialized in life sciences. He bears the Chairman of Altacor, Abcodia, Novacta and Ixico; Non-Executive Director of Arecor, Psychology On-line and Cambridge Temperature Concepts and a special advisor of Vectura plc. In addition, he is a Non-Executive Director of Cancer Research Technologies (the commercial arm of CR-UK) and Babraham Bioscience Technologies, is a member of the BBSRC Council and a Trustee of the British Science Association. He is a founder member of Cambridge Angels and an advisor to several Venture Capital Funds, Private Equity Funds and Corporate Venture Funds.
Founded over 20 years ago at the infancy of biotechnology, the BioIndustry Association (BIA) is the trade association for innovative enterprises involved in UK bioscience.
