MMP19

  • Official Full Name

    matrix metallopeptidase 19

  • Overview

This gene encodes a member of a family of proteins that are involved in the breakdown of extracellular matrix in normal physiological processes, such as embryonic development, reproduction, and tissue remodeling, as well as in disease processes, such as arthritis and metastasis. The encoded protein is secreted as an inactive proprotein, which is activated upon cleavage by extracellular proteases. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants for this gene. MMP19 has several biochemical functions, for example, calcium ion binding, metalloendopeptidase activity, zinc ion binding. Some of the functions are cooperated with other proteins, some of the functions could acted by MMP19 itself. We selected most functions MMP19 had, and list some proteins which have the same functions with MMP19. You can find most of the proteins on our site.
