|Background||CD151 is a tetraspanin and is thought to aid in the creation of multi-protein complexes at the surface of cells. CD151 forms secure laminin-binding compounds in the kidney, using integrins alpha3beta1 and alpha6beta1, and in the skin, using alpha3beta1 and alpha6beta4. CD151 may also play an important role in the inner ear and may also be involved in erythropoiesis. CD151 may be an important marker for prostate cancer and the higher the level of CD151, the less likely the patient survives. Research has shown that mice lacking CD151 have a damaged re-epithelialization process and lack wound healing ability.|
